Huami, a smart wearable maker, known for its Amazfit product lineup, has designed a new N95 mask that will work with face unlocking.

Face masks are considered a basic protective measure by healthcare experts to prevent direct exposure to COVID-19 in public places. With more people using face masks, there are complaints about how using face masks interrupts with modern smartphones’ face unlock mechanism. Taken this into account, Huami, a smart wearable maker, known for its Amazfit product lineup, has designed a new N95 mask that will work with face unlocking.

The product, under Project uSmile, is still being developed and has yet to be released on the market. Not only will it work with smartphones’ face unlock, but Huami also markets the face mask to be able to show the wearer’s emotions and facial expressions.

Aeri masks from Huami are said to have self-disinfection ability with an N95 filter that is replaceable.

The company names its first N95 mask “Aeri.” Huami has shared with XDA-Developers two different sets of concept renders called Concept X and Concept Y.

Aeri masks from Huami are said to have self-disinfection ability with an N95 filter that is replaceable. The masks are disinfected using UV lights. When the mask is plugged into the power supply via its USB-C port, this will activate the UV lights.

Huami also markets the face mask to be able to show the wearer’s emotions and facial expressions.

The company also promises to equip the mask with a modular ventilation fan attachment in order to lower the heat in hot weather. This will probably be similar to the Atmōs from Aō Air which was unveiled at CES 2020.

While the idea may sound cool and feasible, it will be a challenge for the company to manufacture this mask due to restrictions, disrupting the supply chain.
