MacBook Pro 2018 And MacBook Pro 2019: Which One Should You Choose?

We know the temptation to yearn for the latest tech you can lay your hands on, but is the 2019 MacBook Pro worth the splurge?

We know the temptation to yearn for the latest tech you can lay your hands on. While that urge is understandable, it is not always for the better. Apple and other device makers come up with new, and reportedly more powerful hardware every year but most of the time, users will not notice much of a difference in overall performance to make the older generation of MacBook obsolete.

So should you splurge on the latest model of MacBook Pro or go for its predecessor? Let’s find out down below.

Design

There is not much of a difference in the design of the 2019’s MacBook and the one released in 2018, meaning we have the identical weight of 4.02 pounds and dimensions of 13.7 x 9.48 x 0.61-inches.

Both of them come in two color choices, Silver and Space Gray. So in short, you cannot tell them apart if you just look at them. Those who go for the model of last year will not miss out any new feature on the appearance. Users who desire a new look will definitely be disappointed.

The key parts are the same, interactive buttons on OLED strips, which have been there since 2016 and Touch ID sensor.

Both the 2019 MacBook Pro and the version of 2018 sport True Tone feature for color vibrancy, resolution of 2,880 x 1,800, and a 15.4-inch screen.

The fact that both models feature only four Thunderbolt 3 ports may disappoint professionals, but for regular users, that is not much of a problem.

Keyboard

The 2018 MacBook Pro still makes use of the problematic butterfly keyboard, and a silicone membrane, which is supposed to ease the impact of the issue. However, reports of problems continue to surface, leading to the expectation of many users that Apple will switch to something else on the 2019 version of the MacBook.

However, this year model still has the butterfly switches, but with tweaks to fix the problem. It is believed that the changes are the material to stop the keys from getting stuck or becoming responsive.

That is a welcoming move, but the results are doubtful. There is also another offer from Apple, which is the Keyboard Service Program, to aid users who run into trouble with the keys.

Hardware

While the appearance is identical, the inside of the MacBook Pro 2018 and 15-inch MacBook Pro 2019 are not.

This year’s model comes with a 256GB SSD, 16GB 2400MHz DDR4 RAM, Radeon Pro 555X with 4GB of GDDR5 memory, and 2.6GHz 6-core 9th generation Intel Core i7 processor.

You have the choice to go for another version with Radeon Pro 560X with 4GB of GDDR5 memory, 512GB SSD storage, 16GB DDR4 memory, and a 2.3GHz 8-core 9th generation Intel Core i9 processor.

There has never been any MacBook Pro with an octa-core processor before this year’s release. With this upgrade comes serious power regarding multitasking.

On the inside, MacBook Pro 2018 features Radeon Pro 555X GPU, a 256GB SSD, 16GB of DDR4 memory, and a 2.6GHz 6-core 8th-generation Intel Core i7 processor.

The improvement in Radeon Pro graphics and processor have given this year’s offer a bump in performance, but last year’s model is in no way weak.

So if power is the only thing you are after, the 2019 MacBook Pro is the best choice, as it is the most powerful Apple has ever made.

Apart from the power, everything else on the 2018 and 2019 MacBook Pro is identical. The looks are the same, so you can pick either one of them if you do not need the utmost performance.

Please note that even when Apple announced a few tweaks for this year’s model, what you get is still the butterfly keyboard. For a more drastic change, you may have to wait until the rumored release of the 16-inch MacBook Pro later this year.

Those who are after sheer power, this year’s offer is the one you want.
