Apple has just released a new MacBook Pro, and it comes with some bad news for those who want to upgrade or repair the hardware. The device does not get much of a high score from iFixit but unlike its previous models which do not allow access to the touchpads, this MacBook Pro 13-inch 2019 lets you see the inside of the part.

MacBook Pro 13-inch 2019 model lets you access the touchpad

On this year’s MacBook, the trackpad, or touchpad, can be removed without handling the battery. However, the rest of the device is not as easy to work with as the trackpad. The pentalobe screws can be removed with a typical pentalobe screwdriver that a person who has done the same repair or teardown before may have.

We do not need to remove the battery to get to the touchpad, but the IS is fixed into place. No manufacturer will do this if they want their users to repair or replace parts; however, it seems like Apple does not want its customers to do so.

Both the RAM and SSD are joined with solder, and the keyboard is the generation 3.5 butterfly switch keys. This kind of fixation will definitely limit upgradability and longevity.

On the bright side, this model is on Apple’s Keyboard Service Program, so if you find any problem with the keyboard, you can have it fixed right away.

We are not sure whether Apple assumes that the keyboard will need fixing or it is just a way to ease worried customers of the issue with its butterfly keyboard.

However, the MacBook Pro 13-inch 2019’s speakers are smaller than those of the 2016 model. We do not know if the size affects the sound quality or loudness but let’s hope that it does not.
