Google Applies New Tech Help You Control Electronic Devices Only By Hand Gestures

With Google's new radar-based motion sensor, you can use hand gestures to control the electronic devices in your house.

On Monday, FCC approved for Google to run the new motion sensors called Project Soli. The company’s hardware reported allowing users to operate electronic devices with hand gestures.

Said Julius Knapp – Chief of Engineering and technology of FCC:

At Federal Communications Commission. The tech giant is allowed to operate the sensors at higher power levels than we can imagine. The new sensors will be equipped for aircraft.

Previously, in 2016, Project Soli was introduced with a video showing that many smart devices can be controlled by some hand gesture far or close to the devices, even touched with finger.

According to The Verge, Google’s Project Soli radar could be embedded in some devices to recognize pieces in the board game. For example, you can monitor which item is absent when playing Lego.

However, the high-sensitive of the sensors could lead to some issues. If a certain object has small changes, the vice cannot recognize it. For instance, a researcher named Hui-Shyong Yeo found that the radar would become unrecognizable if it were bent.

Project’s Soli censors operation is different from recognition using cameras. The sensors can recognize types of objects regardless of dark or light conditions, even through different materials.

In the future, maybe Google would extend the use of this technique after getting FCC approval. Many devices would be featured new sensors to improve some functions like face recognition, use a camera to check pieces absent from a certain object. Moreover, you can manage some features with touchless hand gestures. For example, to take a picture, you could wave your hand, and the camera would recognize the hand wave, and that's all you needed to do.
