On Wednesday, a market research company named Gartner has announced their preliminary numbers of PC units shipped in the third quarter of this year. According to their research, 67.2 million was the amount of units that have been shipped by PC makers in such period. Back to few months ago, Q2 2018 has reached a flat overall number of shipped units slightly increased compared to last year. With 1.4% rise from the same period of the year 2017, the second quarter of this year has become the first quarter up in six years since the year 2012.
Despite consumers seeming not to have strong demand in this quarter of the year, the overall market still marked impressive sale numbers from strong businesses.
Stating about the market in this third quarter, Gartner’s principal analyst Mikako Kitagawa claimed that corporate PC has always been maintained its demand from consumers. Therefore, it still drove the PC market as it always used to. Above all, the upgrades of Windows 10 PC hardware has led the whole market of PC. It is not said about the upgrade cycle of this Windows newest version is being expected to keep its pace until the end of the year 2020, when the demand for the upgrade will eventually lower than before.
The ranking of PC maker companies has kept its stability. With 23.6 percent of market share this year, Lenovo successfully held on its No.1 ranking by increasing their share from 21.4 percent in last year’s same quarter. The second ranking went to HP. The company has had a quite good third quarter with the market share of 21.8 percent. Dell was in the third place, reached its 16 percent of market share.
Those were the three firms ranking first in the PC market of this year’s third quarter. With its successful business in this period of the year, Lenovo didn’t seem to be treading water with the company’s potential. The biggest PC shipping firm is planning to have their market share expanded. Following Lenovo, HP and Dell are all aiming for increasing the companies’ market share. However, to the contrary, the two giant Apple and Acer had a bad third quarter. Acer and the $1 trillion company respectively ranked fifth and fourth in the PC market this quarter. 7.3 percent was Apple’s market share number, while Acer has for them 6.1 percent to be in the no.5 position.
