San Francisco-based Fitbit has just announced the launching of three new wearable devices for the Indian market. While the Versa Lite Edition is the new entry-level smartwatch of the company, the Inspire and Inspire HR are two new fitness trackers. The company reportedly has plans to introduce Ace 2, kids’ activity tracker. These new products will be available on Amazon, Reliance Digital, Flipkart, Helios, Croma, and offline retail as well.
According to Fitbit, it is looking forward to expanding its line of products in India, including offering more reasonably priced devices similar to the Inspire. By doing this, the company hopes to boost its growth in the rapidly increasing wearables market.
In the future, the company will also improve the quality of its app to offer users a more interesting and personal experience as well as helping them get to know their health data better.
Alok Shankar, the Country General Manager for Fitbit India, said in an interview:
Shipment details along with country-specific revenue are not revealed by the company. Globally, in the Dec 2018 quarter, 5.6 million wearable devices were purchased. For the full-year data, Fitbit sold 13.9 million devices.
The revenue for the December quảter was $571.2 million with international operations made up 43% (around $243 million) of that.
Shankar continued:
The prices for these new products of Fitbit are still considered as on a higher side for the Indian market with Rs 6,999 for the Inspire, Rs 8,999 for the HR and Rs 15,999 for the Versa Lite. To explain this, Shankar said:
The research firm IDC has reported that the wearables market continues to grow and evolve. By 2022, the global shipments of these devices are expected to be 189 million units.
