What Dell did with this model is to focus on what really matters for a laptop for gaming and ditch the frills. In comparison with those from other big brands, like Gigabyte Aorus 15 2019, Dell’s device comes equipped with more capable components at any price point.

Design

When you first lay your hands on the package of a Dell G5 15 5590, the first impression is not so great. The device is shipped in a simple brown cardboard box with no decoration. The box is there to make sure that the device comes to users intact. Period.

This is not exactly a budget-conscious user will complain about. Anything fancy translates to extra cost and not so much contribution to the way the laptop performs.

Out of the box, Dell G5 15 5590 is a real looker. The chassis is made from plastic and metal and exudes a robust look. That, coupled with a reliable monochrome-backlit keyboard, makes for a gaming laptop that can handle almost anything you throw at it.

Whether you find it eye-appealing or not depends on personal preference but the appearance of this laptop may please lots of users.

By current standard, the chin still looks pretty fat, and the bezels are just moderately slim. However, those are forgivable given how much it can do.

The ports are another advantage. You will have all you ever need with a USB-C with Thunderbolt 3 port, three USB A ports, Mini DisplayPort, HDMI, SD card reader, and LAN. These ports and the power connector are all located at the rear, ensuring minimal cable clutter.

Specs Appeal

Dell gives users lots of options when it comes to the specs. In this review, we used the one featuring an Intel six-core Core i7-8750H CPU. While it is an 8th, not a 9th generation, but it is enough CPU for any user.

Dell G5 15 5590 features Nvidia RTX 2060, Nvidia ray-tracing capable Turing generation’s entry-level GPU, but it is still a capable graphics chip. The IPS-panel-based 15.6-inch 1080p display can support up to 144Hz refresh rate.

The storage combo sounds a little strange, a 1TB HDD, 128GB M.2 SSD, and RAM of 16GB; but on papers, it can ensure high performance and a lot of capacity.

Del has done a good job paring the components. The 1080p LCD panel, 1080p LCD panel, and Nvidia RTX 2060 graphics deliver smooth frame rates even with high settings.

The smoothness will reach a certain level though, if you want more than what Dell G5 15 5590 can offer, you might want to find something with refresh rates of 120Hz and above, plus a more powerful GPU. However, Dell’s offer still does a good job in gaming benchmark results.

As for the disadvantages, the fan runs loudly when the laptop has to deal with a heavy load.

Battery Life

The battery life is another thing to love about this Dell G5 15 5590. With 10 hours of movie playback, the power cell is capable enough for any gaming need.

Overall, this laptop is a decent device for gamers, given the competitive price.
