It has been a while since Canon released its Canon EOS M50 and good news for its fans, its successor – the Canon EOS M50 Mark II will be here soon.
Canon EOS M50 Mark II Release Date
No rumors on the Canon EOS M50 Mark II has said anything on an official release date for the camera. However, a recent Twitter post from Nokishita revealed that it had been added to Canon dealers’ product list, along with flash accessories and a new Speedlite.
This often happens right before a new product is launched so we have reason to believe that the camera will probably be announced by mid-November.
This timing is a bit later than the original rumored time frame, which is some time in September.
Canon EOS M50 Mark II Price
There has been no rumor for the price of the Canon EOS M50 Mark II but many believe it will be around $680 (or Rs. 54,625), which is the price of the EOS M50, or a bit higher, given the enhanced specs.
Since Canon EOS M50 Mark II hasn’t been launched yet, the original EOS M50’s still a good choice that offers value for money, as long as you can accept the 4K limitations.
Canon EOS M50 Mark II Specs And Features
A few more recent rumors back up the earlier speculations about the upcoming camera’s specs. If they turn out to be true, the Canon EOS M50 Mark II will be a perfect hybrid camera for both videos and photos.
As stated by Canon Rumors, the upcoming camera will probably have a 32.5MP APS-C CMOS sensor, the same one powering the M6 Mark II. It will likely have Canon’s latest processor, the Digic X, which is a departure from earlier speculation that the M50 Mark II would have the Digic 8 chip.
This comes as no surprise though. Canon introduced the Digic X processor as a family of chips for different cameras. So what you have inside the Canon EOS M50 Mark II isn’t necessarily the same one used in the Canon EOS R5 but users can rest assured that it will have enough power to run advanced functions, including the Dual Pixel Autofocus II.
This might come as a pleasant piece of news as the feature is among the best autofocus systems on the market, right on par with Real-time tracking AF of Sony.
The Digic X will provide enough raw power for the Canon EOS M50 Mark II to achieve the speed of 14FPS. However, at this point, we can’t be sure whether it’s with the electronic or the mechanical shutter.
The upcoming camera’s video recording abilities arguably receive the most attention as one of the original EOS M50’s sore spots is the limitation of 4K, 25p, and 1.6x crop.
Rumor has it that the new M50 Mark II will be able to shoot at 4K, 60p, and no crop, or Full HD recording at 120p.
If Canon gives the new camera the vari-angle screen found on its predecessor, the Canon EOS M50 Mark II will probably be an ideal option for travelers, vloggers, and videographers.
However, the new camera isn’t without downsides. One of the most significant disadvantages is the absence of IBIS (or in-body image stabilization). This’s unfortunate but totally understandable given the size of the camera and the fact that the feature is introduced on the full-frame EOS R6 and Canon EOS R5.
This lack of IBIS is far from being a deal-breaker, as the expected price of the device and its rumored specs sheet are more than enough to make up for that.
According to Canon Rumors, a relatively reliable source of rumors, the upcoming camera will likely share the EVF resolution with the Canon EOS R6 and have one SD card slot.
While there have been no rumors on the battery life of the camera, many expect to get around 235 shots on a single charge and USB-C charging.
Canon EOS M50 Mark II Design
While we have had no reliable information on the look of the upcoming M50 Mark II, a Canon’s patent points to a possibility that the company might have found a way to make its APS-C and mirrorless full-frame cameras a bit more compact.
The patent outlines a design with the shutter motor lies beneath the shutter assembly, not near the battery compartment like we usually see. This change will allow Canon to make the new camera a little smaller.
Canon EOS M50 Mark II: early thoughts
While we haven’t heard any major Canon EOS M50 Mark II news yet, the rumored specs and design make the upcoming camera sounds like the perfect option for anyone looking for a compact, budget-friendly mirrorless hybrid camera equipped with a viewfinder.
For now, the best camera in this category is the Nikon Z50 but if the rumors about Canon’s upcoming camera are true, we might see a new champion.
