Apple Watch Is The Biggest Player As Android Smartwatches Are Strong In China Only

As Android smartwatches are only strong in China, Apple Watch still dominate the smartwatches market, according to IDC.

According to IDC's prediction, the leader position of Apple Watch in the smartwatch sector will remain since Android smartwatches are only strong in China while Tizen watches of Samsung weaken at the 5th place.

Though the ear-worn devices will be more and more popular, Apple Watch will continue to dominate the smartwatch market, said IDC. The firm also estimated in March that Apple will hold 25.9 percent of total market share by 2023 while only reducing slightly to 27.4 percent.

When asked about the reason behind this domination, IDC revealed that it is thanks to the growing demand for Apple’s products.

Research director for IDC’s Wearables team Ramon T. Llamas said:

Unsurprisingly, it is expected that cellular models will become more and more popular.

Almost 50% of all watches will be able to connect to cellular networks by 2023 when consumers, enterprises along with healthcare services find a way of freeing the watches from the phones and when telcos keep at financing options or subsidies for the watches along with cellular services.

The result of a reader survey recently showed that nearly one-third of respondents think there is a more than 50% chance of Apple Watches replacing iPhones in the next few years.

Moreover, smart wearables are believed to expand into the field of translation, according to IDC.

Smartwatches, inherently show users the time, will go more into fitness, health, and connectivity with a variety of systems and applications, both at home and at work. Besides, while ear-worn wearables are used to provide audio, they will move into some other fields such as coaching, language translation, and smart assistant deployment.

It is expected that the whole wearable market will have continued growth in the next 4 years.

The wearable devices market’s shipments are going to reach 222.9 million units globally in 2019, up to 2023’s number of 302.3 million with 7.9% CAGR, forecasted International Data Corporation (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly Wearable Device Tracker. That growth goes along with ear-worn wearables and smartwatches’ propagation, which is expected to account for over 70 percent of total wearable shipments before 2023.
