Apple Is Discontinuing The iMac Pro Computer Without A Reason

Apple iMac Pro is a hefty computer model, especially compared to models with similar specifications for the price. But it barely got upgrades or refreshes.

Apple will stop making and selling iMac Pro computers. The tech giant has recently updated information on the product’s page on its website with an announcement that the computer is only available while supplies last and the default configuration is now the only option for purchase. Consumers can no longer place a custom order.

Apple introduced the iMac Pro back in 2017 as a high-end model with specifications meant for workstations like 3D modeling and video editing. By default, the model features a 27-inch Retina 5K monitor, 3.0GHz 10-core Intel Xeon W processor, 32GB ECC memory, 1TB of SSD storage, Radeon Pro Vega 56 with 8GB HBM2 memory, as well as four Thunderbolt 3 ports.

The company confirmed that it’s killing the iMac Pro product line once its stock and supplies have cleared but didn’t reveal the reason behind this discontinuance. Apple is expected to use new, more powerful ARM-based Silicon in-house chips for its upcoming iMac computers, and different configurations to customers, which will help remove the need for a separate Pro model.

In August last year, the iPhone maker discontinued the iMac Pro that used octa-core processors and made the 10-core version instead. However, these changes didn’t come with any price cuts. Apple iMac Pro is a hefty computer model, especially compared to models built with similar specifications for the price.

Since iMac Pro was introduced, it has always been considered one of the most powerful Apple computers. However, it barely got any upgrades or refreshes. Besides, according to recent rumors, it seems that Apple will redesign its upcoming computer to resemble the Apple Pro Display XDR monitor for the Mac Pro.
