Amazon Is Developing Alexa Earbuds To Compete With Apple’s AirPods

Bloomberg has recently reported that Amazon is developing earbuds that support the company’s digital assistant Alexa. The new products are expected to compete with a variety of wireless headphones from renowned brands like Apple with AirPods or Samsung with Galaxy Buds.

Many believe that the upcoming earbuds from Amazon will be wireless headphones without cables or clips that allow these products to hold in users’ ears. However, the major difference between the company’s products with those from its competitors is the ability to support Alexa. In addition, Amazon will seemingly pay much attention to develop audio quality as an advantage to beat over other products in the current market.

With the Alexa earbuds, customers can do many various tasks on their smartphones, from shopping on the Amazon platform, looking for information, expanding their own to-do lists to playing favourite music. Besides, they just need to say “Alexa” to summon the digital assistant – the feature is said to be similar to second-gen AirPods produced by Apple.

The only problem in the earbuds is that they don’t support integrated LTE. In other words, customers will have to connect them with a smartphone if they want to access Alexa. To do that, Amazon must partner with Google or Apple to ensure their products can work with smartphones. This may be a big issue because Apple is known for rarely choosing such accessories from third parties.

The upcoming earbuds will apparently meet all the vital standards for current wireless headphones such as gesture controls (help play music or receive calls) or a storage case to recharge buds.

According to Bloomberg, Amazon plans to release the earbuds in the last six months of 2019, but its price hasn’t been unveiled yet. However, to compete with AirPods from Apple, the company will have to introduce the products with an affordable price and really high-quality sound.
