The Smart Case, according to Apple, puts the AirPods Max headphones into a low power state to save battery life when they are not in use

On Tuesday, Apple launched the long-rumored over-ear headphones, AirPods Max, at $550.

The AirPods Max is Apple’s first headphones of this kind. It offers high-fidelity audio, active noise cancellation, and a battery life of up to 20 hours. Apple said the time it takes for the headphones to pair with your device is similar to that of AirPods earbuds.

AirPods Max is just another premium pair of headphones but what catches people’s eyes is the hilarious design of its Smart Case which has already fueled jokes online.

The Smart Case, according to Apple, puts the headphones into a low power state to save battery life when they are not in use. The case covers the ear cans but leaves out the headband and it looks exactly like a bra.

Apple has explained nothing about the design but one of the possible reasons for this hilarious look of the case is that the AirPods Max doesn’t fold up in the way we see other headphones do, which limits Apple’s choices when it comes to design.

The case might look unusual but the release of the over-ear headphones has been speculated for at least two years. Rumors about the device started to surface in 2018 and picked up speed when both Ming-Chi Kuo of TF International Securities and Mark Gurman of Bloomberg said the headphones would be released in 2020.

Back in October, Apple kicked premium headphones from Bose and Sonos from its store, signaling the launch of its own over-ear headphones.

AirPods Max is another proof of Apple’s commitment to wireless headphones and earbuds, which the company has seen tremendous growth since 2016.
