Google Assistant has now made its way to your Android Messages app, this news was announced at MWC 2019.
This version of Google’s digital assistant is the company’s latest attempt to use AI in understanding context and guessing your needs. Though we may not get a physical touch of AI, the technology is gradually getting its own spot on our almost every high-end smartphone via camera apps as well as other tools. This new product can add to Google’s AI army to compete with its biggest rival Alexa Assistant from Amazon.

Alvaro, a demo team member, showed Cnet how Google Assistant works in Android Message. For example, when he texted “Let’s watch a movie tonight,” there was a bubble popping up below the message, and by tapping on the bubble, the assistant will show suggestions for current movies to see. In another example, Alvaro texted “Let’s grab dinner before,” this time, two bubbles appeared with suggestions for “restaurants nearby” and “dinner nearby.” Both the sender and receiver can tap on the bubble and view suggestions for places to eat.
One of the great things about this version of Google Assistant is how natural it is as well as the way it helps save time searching for information individually. It’s perfect for researchers who are too lazy for traditional lookups, and it feels more real-time and more collaborative.

Google Assistant shows movie suggestions
For now, Google Assistant for Android Message can only work with restaurants and movies; however, it will soon cover every aspect of our daily life. Also, smartphone users in 24 countries around the world can now use the help of the assistant already. But it takes the right combination of phone and carrier for the Assistant to work on Android Message. It’s unclear what exactly the combination must be.
The new Google Assistant version comes with elements borrowed from Google Allo, a previous Google’s AI messaging app that is now defunct.
