Xnxubd 2020 Nvidia Shield TV Review: A Killer Smart TV Box
Harin - Apr 22, 2020
With its price, the new Xnxubd 2020 Nvidia Shield TV isn’t cheap, but it does come packed with powerful features. Here is an in-depth review.
The new Xnxubd 2020 Nvidia Shield TV is equipped with new AI-powered upscaling technology along with a fresh space-saving design. The TV has two variants: a £149.99 or Rs 14,200 media streamer and a £199.99 or Rs 18,900 Pro alternative for gaming.
For those who don’t know about the functions of these media streaming devices, they add to older televisions or replacing the out-of-date smart features of more modern sets a smart TV experience. So with these devices, you will be able to use apps like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video and BBC iPlayer.
In terms of graphics, Nvidia is possibly the biggest name. The company is also the one behind mobile chips known as Tegra which these two new Android TV boxes are based on. Nvidia released the previous Shield back in 2015. And what sets it apart from other streaming boxes and smart TVs is that it is always being refreshed with updates.
Here is an Xnxubd 2020 Nvidia Shield TV review.

Xnxubd 2020 Nvidia Shield TV: User-centric design

The standard Shield TV doesn’t have a box shape. Rather, it has a tube shape. In one end are an ethernet socket and power cable while on the other end is a microSD card slot and an HDMI socket. The idea behind this design is that you can hide the device behind your TV with the cable so that it doesn’t take up too much space.
The remote of the new Xnxubd 2020 Nvidia Shield TV has been redesigned. Rather than being a remote that is thin and touch-sensitive, the new one is in a triangular shape powered by standard AAA batteries. The buttons including dedicated volume and pause buttons are backlit once you pick up the remote.
You may find the shape odd but it is meant to prevent the remote from slipping down the backs of the side of the sofas. And surprisingly, it works. You must admit that the new design of the remote is a simple and user-friendly design.
The remote connects with the Shield Tv through Bluetooth. It has an IR blaster to control your TV’s volume, soundbar or amp.
Xnxubd 2020 Nvidia Shield TV: Android TV

The Android TV platform of Google is a quite simple system which is based on apps as well as a customizable rotating layout highlighting content from some certain apps. With the Shield TV, it is faster and easier to navigate, compared to regular smart TVs.
The interface is easy to use with up, down, right, left, home and back buttons. If you hold the home button, quick access will pop up. And if you double-press, you will be shown recently used apps, just like on a tablet or smartphone.
When you hold the back button, you will be taken to the settings menu. You can customize the menu button which is in the top right to launch certain apps, functions, or settings. There is even a dedicated button for Netflix.
One of Android TV’s biggest advantages is its wide app support. And the apps receive routinely updates. Besides direct app support, the Xnxubd 2020 Nvidia TV has built-in Chromecast 4K support, which means you can send any app from your iPhone or Android, tablet or computer to your screen wirelessly, except for Apple TV.
Apps including Android games as well as GeForce Now service for game streaming from Nvidia are also available. For games, you will need a controller. Nvidia does sell one, but you can use any PlayStation or Xbox joypad with Bluetooth support.
Xnxubd 2020 Nvidia Shield TV: Google Assistant
Android TV has built-in Google Assistant. On the remote, you just need to press and hold the micro button to talk to Assistant.
It is possible to control apps’ playback like pausing, playing or skipping a track in Spotify or a particular time in a movie, TV show or song. You can use voice command to launch apps, search for movies, shows, or track, or adjust the volume. Just tell Assistant to play Lost in Space, you will be asked to play it either via Google Play Movies or Netflix.
There are other standard Assistant functions. You can ask it how to go to work and it will give you the information about the current state of transport or traffic. Ask about whether and you will receive the forecast paired with visual cards. You can do hundreds of other things including commanding smart home devices or streaming smart cameras’ footage. Maybe the only thing it can’t do is searching for photos from the web.
Xnxubd 2020 Nvidia Shield TV: Next-generation AI upscaling

The most highlighted feature about the Shield TV is the new AI upscaling technology of Nvidia which turns HD content into 4K. While almost every set-top box or TV can stretch HD content to fit into a 4K screen. The technology of Nvidia is state-of-the-art, especially when you watch highly detailed scenes.
While cityscapes look extremely detailed and crisp, faces, cars, and wildlife are significantly improved compared to other smart TVs’ upscaling.
Xnxubd 2020 Nvidia Shield TV: Price
The Xnxubd Nvidia Shield TV is priced at a £149.99 or Rs 14,200 while the Pro version costs £199.99 or Rs 18,900.
For comparison, the Fire TV Stick 4K of Amazon costs £49.99, the Fire TV Cube is £109.99 while the Google Chromecast Ultra is priced at £69 and £179 is the price of the Apple TV.
Verdict
For a long time, the Nvidia Shield had been users’ choice for Android TV streaming boxes. But with its redesign to be a hide-away tube and a new user-friendly remote, the Xnxubd 2020 Nvidia Shield TV is the best streaming box for both power users and regular users. It is definitely on par with the Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K and the Apple TV.
Among all of its features, it is the AI upscaling technology that steals the show. If you mostly enjoy HD content from Amazon, Netflix, Google Play and YouTube on your 4K TV, you should definitely go for the Nvidia Shield.
With its price, the new Xnxubd 2020 Nvidia Shield TV isn’t cheap, but it does come packed with powerful features.
