There are several unique things ever auctioned that were bought by enthusiasts and collectors. And now, a sheep has been sold for the highest price.
So far, we have covered many different unique items that were auctioned for hefty prices to collectors and hobbyists like a special console, a Pokemon card, etc. But today, a sheep was auctioned and sold for a hefty price, making it the most expensive sheep in the world.
The star of the new bid is named Double Diamond, a sheep breed that’s indigenous to Texel Island, Netherlands.
Jeff Aiken, a plain golden-colored sheep enthusiast has paid offered the highest price, beating two other breeders, to buy Double Diamond. The sheep’s owner is Charlie Boden who sold Double Diamond for a total of $490,000.
Aiken explained that like other businesses like cattle or horse racing businesses, there is something special surfacing from time to time, and in this case, the special thing is a Texel, and everyone wanted it.
The last record was set in 2009, at $307,000 (Rs 2.23 crore) for a sheep.
Aiken said:
“It was more nerve-racking than excitement. We knew it was going to be something really special. He was just an outstanding animal, backed up by all the best genetics. There were about seven or eight people who really, really wanted him and that’s what led to the price.”
Aiken plans to bring the Texel sheep to his farm where he’s breeding this type of sheep.
The ownership of Double Diamond is reportedly shared by Aiken with two other partners. When the sheep becomes older and can no longer reproduce, his sperm will be collected for artificial insemination.
