A Chinese man has been arrested for swapping an iPhone 12 Pro Max with an Apple-flavored yogurt drink after a woman made a viral video on Weibo, China’s largest social network.
Long was arrested on Sunday and confessed that he was transporting cargo from Anhui to Shanghai between February 6 and February 18 and took advantage of his job. The victim, Liu, ordered an iPhone 12 Pro Max online at a price of over $1,500. When she received the package on February 16, she was shocked to find an apple-flavored yogurt drink inside.
Liu said that she placed the order on Apple’s official website, not a third-party seller. Then, Liu posted a video about the incident on social media Weibo and shared pictures of the package she received.
Express Mail Service was responsible for delivering the product. The company and Apple said that they had delivered the phone to the said address and that they were investigating the matter. Global Times reported that Long opened the parcel, supposed to be shipped to Liu, took the iPhone 12 Pro Max, and replaced it with a carton of yogurt.
Apple launched the iPhone 12 Pro Max in India late last year at a price of Rs 1,29,900. E-commerce frauds used to happen when customers place an order from a third-party seller. But the recent case indicates another risk as Liu ordered the product directly on Apple’s site.
In a recent e-commerce fraud in India, a resident in Delhi ordered a Redmi 8A Dual during Amazon Sale but received a Rs 14 bar of soap instead.
