Robots are making their ways into human lives. There are now robots replacing humans in factories. We have sex robots. Now we even have pole dancing robots to entertain and amuse people in the club. For its fifth anniversary celebration next week, SC-Club from Nantes, France has just adopted two pole-dancing robots.
The celebration which will be lived on September 3 will show robots in heels with their heads replaced by CCTV cameras to capture the spectators’ expression once seeing their moves.
British artist Giles Walker was the one to create the robots. To give them a more human-like appearance, Giles added mannequins’ plastic parts to the robots’ metal bodies.
If you were asking why there were giant cameras sitting on top of the robots’ bodies, Giles wanted to “play with the notion of voyeurism,” and raise the question about “who has the power between the voyeur and the observed person".
The concept was actually created 10 years ago. Giles has gone to different cities and loaned the robots.
However, Laurent Roue, the club owner believes that it is not possible for the robotic pole dancers to take the place of 10 human dancers working at the club. He only thinks of this as a way to honor the technology.
Roue said:
Lexi, one of the club’s pole dancers also agrees with this, believing the robots won’t take her job. "They won't really change our sector. They won't replace us,” she said.
