According to Juniper Research, the use rate of voice assistant will increase threefold in the near future, climbing from 2.5 billion last year to 8 billion in 2023.

The use of voice assistants is on the rise
Users may have access to the assistant mainly by their cellphones, with Google Assistant for Android and Siri for iOS. Google projected that the number of users would reach one billion at the end of last month while that of Alexa has been over 100 million already.
However, Juniper believes that smart TVs will outpace smartphones in this field. According to its report, voice assistant for TV will rise by 121.3%. The figure for wearable devices is 40.2%, and smart speakers’ is 41.3% in the next 5 years.
Alexa is the top player now but devices from Chinese firms are hot on their heels for that leading spot.

Currently, Alexa only comes with smart speakers
While some people underestimate the role of smart speakers in making purchases, the report actually says the opposite. By 2023, it shows that the annual earnings of voice commerce will peak at $80 billion. However, the figure reflects the numbers for digital merchandise purchase, money transfer, as well as other purchases.
James Moar, the report’s author shared that they think digital purchases would account for the largest part of voice commerce but when these assistants can work across several platforms with ease, the situation might change. He believed that TVs have an edge over smart speakers because they offer a visual display that the latter lacks.
On the flip side, this growth can hinder the development of apps made by independent developers as when cross-platform is in demand; these apps will be out of luck. The good side is that our screen time will finally decrease as the assistants are in charge of almost all simple tasks.
Interactions that involve only the voice might be what the future requires as the result of smart speakers being frequently used.
