According to British armed forces medics, 8,801 troops were prescribed Viagra and Prozac last year.
Over 1,000 servicemen suffered from erectile dysfunction, the condition refers to the inability to keep erection firm enough for sexual intercourse. This condition calls for the help of Viagra.
Many soldiers said the stress from serving made them unable to perform their best on bed.
According to figures from the Ministry of Defence, 803 file and rank personnel and 203 officers have the blue pill with their armory.
A report by the Freedom Of Information, anti-depressant pills are prescribed to over 7,769 troops in 2019. It revealed 4,491 were from the Army, 1,500 are Navy personnel, and 1,778 are from the Royal Air Force.
However, the report also said Viagra, besides its effect to treat erectile dysfunction, can also be used for blood pressure and prostate issues. So the number might also include people who need medication for problems other than the inability to perform their best in bedroom.
According to doctors, Viagra can also work on pulmonary hypertension, a type of high blood pressure, and benign prostatic hyperplasia, a common condition in older men.
In addition, anti-depressant drugs can also be used to treat other conditions, like to manage neuropathic pain.
In a separate incident, the military’s stockpile of Viagra has been raided repeatedly. In a course of seven years, an amount worth of Rs, 5,16, 202 of Viagra has been stolen from the military.
