Uber Told Its Drivers To Not Report Potential Crimes

The customer service department of Uber has been reportedly skewed to favor the company. They do not care about the serious level of all those complaints.

Over the years, Uber has encountered various charges for sexual assault against the company's drivers. However, the company has assured users repeatedly that they are working to improve riders' security.

According to The Washington Post, Uber's department of customer service has been reportedly skewed to favor the company. Reportedly, a certain number of Special Investigations staffs of Uber has revealed that the company has forbidden them from reporting to the police. They also did not allow to advise the victims to look for legal advice after the assault. On the other hand, the very generous 3-strikes system of Uber has been keeping drivers in the car very long even after they have been accused of serious crimes.

Trouble Rides

Previously, a driver in New York allegedly has made three different sexual advances on his riders but was still able to continue to ride for Uber until the fourth incident. That when a rider said that the driver has raped her.

Nor they would share it with other rideshare business or background checking firms.

Moreover, if a particular driver is blocked off from Uber, the company does not share that information with either police or other rideshare platforms. Therefore, that same driver could still apply to another rideshare company where other passengers might be at risk.

The women's safety global head of the company Tracey Breeden has commented on this matter. According to her, this policy of the company is survivor-centric, where the complainer owns their complaint and decide by themselves to contact the authority.

The Company's Responses

They also keep on insisting that the driver is an independent contractor, not an employee of the company.

The company has tried repeatedly to distance their image from the recent legal concerns of both their riders and drivers.  They keep on saying that as a platform (middleman), the company is not accountable for crimes during the ride. They also keep on insisting that Uber driver is an independent contractor, not an employee of Uber. Thus, the company is not responsible for driver actions.

To sum it up, these policies are really questionable and also not limited to Uber.
