Truth to be told, the company had promised to equip drivers with sanitizers last month. This is followed by the closing of all local hubs. These places are set up for drivers to drop by whenever they need in-person help or use the bathroom, so it’s not easy for them in case they look for supplies from now on.

Andrew McDonald, vice president of Uber, wrote on Twitter that the company initially received a total of 30,000 bottles of disinfectant spray from Zep Inc., a company from Atlanta. Drivers then could order them in the app before receiving shipment at no cost.

Also, Uber has kept working on more supplies to widen the scope of the project. Most active drivers in New York and a few other cities will get this medical support in advance.

Generally speaking, suppliers had moved Uber’s orders for down the queue couple of times as it always prioritized orders for healthcare facilities.

Another ride-hailing company in the US, Lyft Inc., has given away a bunch of necessary supplies throughout its still-opened hubs in spite of not providing additional details. The company has yet to leave a comment about this.

Due to different forms of lockdown and social distancing, Lyft and Uber’s businesses have rapidly sunk down in not only the US but also all over the globe. Drivers are now under a lot of issues, from both the downside of ambiguous contracts and threats of being exposed to the COVID-19 virus.
