Tristan O’Tierney, Co-Founder Of Square Inc., Has Passed Away At 35

As the co-founder of Square Inc., Tristan O’Tierney was the one to develop the company’s first payment app for the mobile platform. According to the San Francisco Chronicle’s latest report, he passed away on February 23 in Ocala, Florida. He was 35.

He began working for Square since February 2009 and became the company’s head developer who created the original app for iOS smartphones. In addition to Tristan O’Tierney, the two other co-founders of Square included Jim McKelvey and Jack Dorsey (Twitter CEO). Before that, he had worked for three other companies such as Apple, Yahoo, and VMware. After his 4-year operation, in June 2013, Tristan O'Tierney left Square Inc.

During the next period, Tristan O’Tierney has worked as a freelancer and specialized in developing applications. He is known as the Director of Mobile at Voteraide and has spent lots of time on photography and travelling.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle, his family revealed that the reasons behind his death were due to addiction. And the officials haven’t yet offered the true cause of his death. Pamela Tierney, his mother, said to the Chronicle that Tristan O’Tierney had been in the fight against addiction since three years ago and he was in a rehabilitation program that lasted three months in Ocala.

Some of O’Tierney's struggles concerning addiction were also revealed by himself on social media. In the following 2-3 weeks, his memorial service will be held in San Francisco.
