A Guinness World Record has recently been earned by Toyota's bot CUE3. And if you are thinking there is something related to cars, then you’re terribly wrong.
Since last year, an engineers group of the company had thought that using their available time to create a robot which plays basketball and does every shot properly sounded like a good idea.

This April, they unveiled the robot’s third iteration (which was called CUE3) and within a month from that moment, the robot tried and succeeded in creating the Guinness World Record for “most consecutive basketball free throws by a humanoid robot (assisted).”
The initial goal that the team made for the world record was about 1000 baskets. But that was too easy for CUE3, which is why they made it to 2020, and it worked out as an approval to the soon-to-come Tokyo Olympics. Surprisingly, even after that event, the robot had not missed any shots.

If you think that’s impressive, then you’ll be thrilled to know that CUE3 can do even more than that. It is not at all limited to free throws. The AI technology used to power the robot based on camera’s feedback to precisely determine the distance from CUE3 to the ball basket and therefore perfectly adapt its way of shooting. Using this technology, CUE3 can easily score even if it’s standing from center court.
And that’s not all. The robot is both right-handed and left-handed. I know this sounds odd, but it can score perfectly with its left hand.
The leader of this project – Tomohiro Nomi – stated in the Guinness World Record video:
