Ah, the good old caffeine! The perfect stimulant for a fine morning, but having too much of it will actually make you feel on edge. Do you ever wonder if there is a way to stay awake but without all those negative consequences?
The 2B-Alert Web
There is this new web-based optimization program for measurement of caffeine usage; the name is 2B-Alert Web. Its algorithm is made by using various shift-work and sleep-deprivation scenarios input data.
The analysis of this program's creator indicates that people need 40% less amount of caffeine to remain alert or a 40% additional amount to improve their alertness.
Jaques Reifman ( a Ph.D. researcher in the U.S Army Medical Department) said that their 2B-Alert Web program allows people to maximize the good effect of caffeine while lower on the actual amount used.
In fact, Reifman presented this algorithm at the SLEEP convention in Baltimore last year. It was the APSS's annual meeting (Associated Professional Sleep Societies LLC). At the event, he compared his algorithm to the previous four published studies on sleep loss. But then he has taken his algorithm much further.
A New Program
He has incorporated the algorithm into an open-access program online which allows people to input multiple factors such as the wanted peak-alertness time within a wake/sleep schedule, minimum alertness level, maximum daily intake of caffeine.
That means this program can actually predict the alertness of an individual to help with the planning of her or his caffeine and wake/sleep schedule. This free tool will also allow users to calculate their ideal doses and timing for caffeine intake so that they could achieve maximum alertness.
Reifman has published the abstract of this research on journal Sleep's online supplement. He will also present it at the SLEEP meeting in 2019.
