This Standalone Robo-Cat Is All You Need For Your Home

Your heart starts melting once you see a little puppy or kitten, but you might soon be in dilemma between having them as a special family member in your home or not. To the short and long, you hesitate to decide because of your very own reasons, accounting for one or even a dozen of worries. Now, it’s time to think about a robot pet – and every issue will no longer concern you.

This robo-cat, dubbed MarsCat, is designed to act as a full-stack domestic companion. Not far from ideal, MarsCat makes its own way into human-interactive tasks like research, education or commerce. This standalone robo-cat is made by Elephant Robotics, a China-based robotics company that works on several robot models for industrial and scientific purposes.

MarsCat is now available in various colors: white, black, brown, and gray. Throughout the bionic body of MarsCat, there’s a collection of sensors, cameras, and other mechanical cells. MarsCat has six touch sensors to “feel”, a 5MP camera to “see” and a microcomputer-based processing unit as “brain.” For every single movement, it uses a total of 17 motors: each paw has three motors while the head sports two, and two for its tail. The owner of MarsCat can have it performing simple tasks or constant interaction scenarios, calculating for up to 5 hours of use.

According to the company, this robo-cat is able to manipulate a bed of different behaviors such as rolling, sleeping, sitting, and stretching. Also, it can learn some words. Aside from manufacturer configurations, owners of MarsCat are allowed to apply their preferences to the cat with the help of its open software development kit.

Having been said to hit the market as early as next year, MarsCat will reportedly be priced at around $1,299.
