Though dolphins look like fish, they are actually smart mammals of the sea, who have been able to create relationships and bond with humans. If you need proof, the following story that’s gone viral on social media will make a perfect example.

Mystique, the special dolphin that brings gifts from the sea

A humpback dolphin has built a habit of giving visitors presents brought from the bottom of the sea. The dolphin is called Mystique and he has been bringing presents to volunteers at Barnacles Café and Dolphin feeding center on the Cooloola Coast in Queensland. The male dolphin, at 29 years old, often choose the best items from the seabed like coral, shells, and bottles, bringing to the surface with his snout.

According to Lyn MacPherson, a volunteer feeder, Mystique was not trained to do this. Each time he brings items, volunteers reward him with fish. Lyn said:

“He gets under it [and] if he drops it too far out, or we say "come on, that's not good enough", then he gets underneath it and brings it to us. We swear he has a collection waiting to bring to us.”

Gifts include corals, bottles, etc.

There are six other dolphins in the pod, but only Mystique brings gifts. There’s another male dolphin going with Mystique a few times, hoping to get treats.

In fact, dolphins have learned to co-exist with other animals, including humans. In a special case, a bottlenose dolphin has been caring for a baby whale for years. For as long as we know, spotting dolphins at sea is also a good sign for sailors as they would guide ships to the shore.

Dolphins are the best, aren’t they?
