These Two COVID-19 Testing Kits Only Need 10 Minutes

As the COVID-19 pandemic is spreading around the world, researchers around the world are racing to find a cure. And coming up with new testing kits that can give out results faster is also an important part of this fight.

Conventional tests take at least one day to deliver the result. But now there are two kits that can do so in only ten minutes.

Mologi Ltd. from the UK is working with research foundation Institut Pasteur de Dakar from Senegal to come up with a method to test COVID-19 in no longer than ten minutes. However, it is worth noting that, such a testing kit is still being developed and will take around three months to be completed.

Mologic is using the same technology used for malaria and home pregnancy tests. The use of finger-prick and saliva kit can lower the cost of the kits to less than $1 for a piece.

End-users can benefit from the same cost. The UK government has granted Mologic $1.2 million to develop the test kits which are now being manufactured by diaTropix in Senegal. For those needing it, the kit will be available at a zero profit cost.

And Mologic isn’t the only company to develop a faster testing kit for COVID-19. Assay Genie, a company in Ireland is ready to release its testing kit that can deliver results within 15 minutes.

And the same pregnancy test technology is being used again. At the moment, the kit is in its testing phase. Once everything is done, it will be released globally. All it needs is one drop of blood.

PCR tests used for COVID-19 often done in labs take several hours while costing a lot of money. If the number of suspected cases keeps rising, the method will soon become insufficient.
