These Robot Dogs Now Turn Into Doctors With iPad Heads!

Amid the COVID-19 outbreak, a dedicated idea has come from the well-known robot manufacturer Boston Dynamics. The company's Spot Mini robots, in combination with iPads, are now making it much safer for doctors as they can walk into patients’ rooms without having to worry about being infected.

This happened due to requests for help from hospitals to the company.

According to an update from the company, after having conversations with hospitals and being aware of the shortage of personal protective equipment (PPE) worldwide, it took them weeks to finally come up with a product that met their needs - their robot, Spot.

The result came out to be a four-legged robot that can be used to work in special environments such as triage tents and parking lots to help frontline staff during the pandemic.

The aim of this product is mainly to protect medical staff from being infected. The company also said that with the robot, hospitals have higher chances in conserving their PPE supply better and can minimize the number of staff needed.

A Spot Mini has already been used in Boston’s Brigham and Women’s Hospital, in which its duty is to enable doctors and nurses to treat their patients from a remote distance.

To be more specific, the iPad is attached on top of Spot turning it into an ersatz doctor, as shown in pictures of a modified one.

Boston Dynamics currently mentions its effort in improving the robot by adding more functions such as distantly measuring oxygen saturation, pulse, and body temperature.

By receiving help from a UV-C light, Spot is also expected to be able to eliminate viruses in environments that need to be sterilized.
