Just a few days ago, the Indian government released the Aarogya Setu app to both Android and iOS users. The official CO.VID-19 tracking app uses location data and Bluetooth to track a person’s interaction with a potentially infected person.

The app was launched just a few days ago

As of April 4, the app already became one of the most popular free apps on both the App Store and Google Play Store. It also got 5 million installs on the Play Store. According to Arnab Kumar, NITI Aayog’s Program Director of Frontier Technology, Aarogya Setu achieved nearly 8 million installs within three days since its launch. The number might have increased significantly by now. The App Store doesn’t show how many installs the app got, but it has ranked first in the Health and Fitness, and the Free Apps sections.

The app proactively provides users with information about the infection risks, the best practices along with relevant advisories to limit the spread of the pandemic

Aarogya Setu can be used as an official source of information related to the CO.VID-19 pandemic as well as a critical tool for preventing the disease from spreading further. The government has been encouraging Indians to use this app via various channels, including schools and institutions, where teachers, students, staff, parents, and family members are urged to install the application.

All the information provided by the app has been checked by the Department of Health. Aarogya Setu also supports a range of languages including English, Hindi, Marathi, and Gujarati so to make it friendly with everyone. Besides, the app is claimed to only share user data with the Indian government, it doesn’t allow for disclosing users’names and numbers to the public.
