Last year, Tesla released its much controversial Cybertruck, an electric pickup truck. Less than a year later, we might see an electric race car makes it to the market.

However, this one might not under the brand Tesla since it only has the company’s engine. The man behind this invention is Damian Butcher. He and his team from Driftech Electric Racing built a racing car from Tesla’s large Drive unit. The vehicle is capable of putting out 603 horsepower.

The electric race car was introduced last month at Sydney EV Expo. BronoPweer, a YouTuber, got to see the car at the event and made a video about it on his channel.

The Drive Unit was mounted upside down, which enhances the vehicle’s overall handling. The driver sits on the right side of the car so the battery is put on the left to strike a balance.

Other parts of the car other than the engine from Tesla are a dashboard touchscreen, an EV control unit, and a 400 V LiPo battery. According to Butcher, it took the team three weeks to make the electric race car. LiPo battery has an inherent safety issue, this is why it is put inside a stainless steel box in case the worst scenario happens.

The overall cost of the car is $100,000, $60,000 more expensive than the Cybertruck.

Back in November last year, Elon Musk, Tesla’s CEO revealed the futuristic-looking Cybertruck. While not everyone is into its look, there is no denying that the pickup truck’s specs are impressive for an electric vehicle.

It sports an air compressor onboard, up to six seating, 14,000 pounds towing capacity. Its range is from 250 to 500 miles (402 km to 804 km).
