During the 1960s, when he worked as an editor and writer at Marvel, Lee cooperated with Jack Kirby and Steve Ditko to build the unique superheroes who have rapidly gained the attention from readers at all ages.

Before Lee and his superheroes became available to the world, Americans had made friends with Superman from Detective Comics (and then, the company changed its name into DC Comics) in 1938. During decades, DC Comics and Marvel have kept competing with each other, as well as the fight between two groups of their superheroes has had no signs to end.

The characters created by the legend of Marvel are famous for their humanity and complexity. What they have to experience are same as what normal people do. Their world also revolves around the common topics like love, feelings of insecurity or worry about money.

He took part in the design of all his characters; however, the whole ownership of promoting them still belongs to Lee.

Born in New York, on 28th December 1922, he was a child of Jewish immigrants who came from Romania. When he was 17, he ran on an errand at Timely Comics (the precursor company of Marvel).

In 1947, he married to the actress Joan Lee who passed away last year.

They had two children, Joan Celine in 1950 and Jan Lee in 153, respectively. Unluckily, Jan Lee died 3 days after her birth.

In 1961, Lee started to build up his own superhero team when the DC Comics' success made his boss anxious. At some time, he was depressed with his work. The motivation for him to continue his career as a writer was his wife’s encouragement. She advised him to insert some shots as well as invent any character as complex as he liked.
