On August 7, Ethan Chappel unintentionally directed his telescope towards Jupiter, the largest planet in the galaxy. The interesting fact under his watch can astonish even the most expertise astronomer. Within a few seconds, a bright flash appeared on the planet’s surface and was captured immediately by his telescope.
According to Chappel's observation, there is an emergency and gradual disappearance of a white spot on the lower left side of Jupiter. Fortunately, he successfully recorded this phenomenon from his telescope. Let's take a look at the video in his post right there!
While scientists are researching the cause of the flash, many speculations have been made including the possibility of a massive asteroid. In fact, the colossal was caused by the collision of objects on the planet, resulting in a sizable explosion as the Earth. The image below will clearly illustrate what was next to Jupiter and the Earth.
Astronomer Dr. Heidi B. Hammel, who was a member of astronomers with similar recorded findings in 1994, claimed that the mentioned object was possibly a “bolide”. Simply understanding, it is a sort of meteor.
Previously, Comet Shoemaker-Levy 9 (or SL9) came into forcible contact with the planet, causing dark debris on its surface. Meanwhile, this crash is supposed to not produce such an impact.
