The reason is that the cybercrime used a potent AI to make the fake voice so perfect and trustworthy.

It’s time for apps mimicking people’s faces and voices to take the world by storm as shaping the creativity of people is pretty entertaining to watch. However, while some use it to delight people, others intend to make several malicious practices.

It’s time for apps mimicking people’s faces and voices to take the world by storm

A scammer recently made use of deepfake technology to outwit an energy company based in the UK. By using a form of this mind-blowing technology, he did pretend to be the head of the parent company to convince this company’s CEO to transfer roughly 1.75 crore INR. With most of us, this scenario sounds bizarre because it’s not easy to pass such great lengths and successfully fool the victim.

According to a recent report, the incident was discovered by an insurance agency named Euler Hermes and was reported to the authorities after that. The name of involved companies was kept confidential, but the culprit has not yet been caught.

The deepfake technology is springing up, but it also comes at a cost.

As reported by the victim, he was convinced by the familiar voice that he had heard, which was described as his boss’s voice. Which did make the victim completely trust? The only reason is that the cybercrime used a potent AI to make the fake voice perfect and trustworthy.

While the deepfake technology is springing up, making fake content much more "real", it also comes at a cost: people can easily be fooled by such a mimic like what happened in this incident. Until now, there’s no information about how the culprit could train his AI to that high-level of voice mimicking.
