2020 hasn’t been going well for the world, especially China. The COVID-19 pandemic originated from China has spread around the globe, crippling nations and economies with countries being put under lockdown.

Reports point out that shipments from Chinese smartphone makers this year are considerably less than the data recorded at the same time last year.

Research analyst Shilpi Jain at Counterpoint Research says that the contribution of smartphone brands from china fell from 81% in Q1 2020 to 72% in Q2 2020. This was a result of the stuttering supply for some major brands like Realme, Oppo, and Vivo as well as the growing anti-China sentiment following the government’s decision to ban over 50 Chinese apps and delay the import of Chinese goods.

The overall shipments in the country recorded a 51% drop year on year to only 18 million units in Q2 2020. This was due to the lockdown. By June 2020, when the country started to unlock, there was still a mild decline of 0.3% year on year.
