Sales Of S.e.x Toys And Condoms Shoot Up During India Lockdown

With the lockdown being prolonged, experts worry that by 2033, India will have something they call a “Coronavirus boom” with a large number of quranteens.

However, a recent report shows that Indians have already prepared for that situation by stocking up condoms and contraception just like when they hoard foods and other essentials.

As reported by pharmacies and condom retailers, people’s idea of protection has gone far beyond face masks. Ever since the lockdown order was made public, Indians have pushed the sales of condoms by 50%.

According to Harshal Shah, owner of a medical store in Mumbai, people have lots of time at home and they get bored. He said before the pandemic struck, people usually go for packs of three, now they stock up packets with up to 20 condoms each.

An employee of a Delhi-based Apollo pharmacy said the demand was so high that supply could not keep up. Other pharmacies also go through the same situation.

Another big change that has been reported recently is that women are now more open with contraceptive products, including those for emergency situations.

As stated by Rajiv Mehta, a Sir Ganga Ram Hospital’s psychiatric consultant, this was a war-like situation when couples had more time together and intimacy increased. Before the pandemic, they were always busy with their work so there was no time to spend with each other.

But that is the situation for couples; single individuals also have needs to be satisfied when they cannot go out as much as they want. This is why the sales for s.e.x toys have also seen a surge.

As stated by an online s.e.x toy store, demand for flesh.lights and vibrators had increased so much that they found it hard to keep up.
