AIIMS Offers Robots To Support Physical Therapy Soon

AIIMS’s physical therapists in New Delhi have planned to get the latest technology that uses robots in early rehabilitation for patients.

Physical therapists from the AIIMS (All India Institute of Medical Sciences), New Delhi, India will soon be able to offer a physical treatment method using robots for patients in the coming time. AIIMS’s department in physical therapy is planning to get this innovative method to rehabilitate their patients soon.

The information was heard on the last day of the 7th International Conference of Physical Therapy- AIIMS 2018 taking place from December 20 - 24, 2018.

This conference attracted the participation of over 600 representatives from various regions of India and many other countries. Mr. Ashwini Kumar Choubey, Union Minister of State of India, inaugurated the event which was held for two days starting December 22.

According to him, the Indian government is expected to approve the Allied and Healthcare Professions Bill 2018 early and call on objectors to agree on this bill because it would bring benefits to a lot of Indian people.

Furthermore, a secretary of organizing, Nirmal Kumar shared that in the context where the population of India has been getting older and older, physical therapists could not avoid from catching up with the new trends and innovative solutions to apply in their job, in collaboration with professionals, to offer the most effective therapy for early rehabilitation to their patients.

Using robotics in physiotherapy

Dr. Prabhat Ranjan, a senior physical therapist from the Neurology Department of the AIIMS, said that putting robots into ICUs is expected to change the situation, especially in early rehabilitating patients’ lower and upper limbs in their treatment.

It is known that those who suffer from the consequences of trauma, strokes, spinal injuries, and other orthopedic and neurological conditions could actually benefit from this innovative technology. It is expected to definitely enhance their mental, sensory and physical functions, Ranjan added.

Ranjan also gave more information that the use of robotics is the most recent method introduced in the rehabilitation and physical therapy in developed countries.
