Dieter Fox believes that cobots, which stands for “collaborative robots,” will become our future’s fixture. These bots will work alongside humans our companions, coworkers, and caretakers.
Also, Fox thinks that NVIDIA, the company that he works for, is going to be the leading firm in robotics for this new era. And everything will start from an Ikea kitchen.
Back in November, a new AI Robotics Research Lab of NVIDIA was opened in Seattle and Fox was appointed as the head of the lab. The lab already has around a dozen projects that are in progress. However, researchers mainly focus on training a robotic arm on how to maneuver around an Ikea kitchen.
In a news release, Fox said:
For the time being, a robotic arm is going to be trained to pick up items from counters and place them in the drawers. After some time, the robot’s tasks will include loading dishes into a dishwasher and cooking a meal.
But it would be cool to have a robot as your sous-chef, the primary goal for NVIDIA is not limited to training robots in the kitchen.
