Reliance Jio’s telecom network had the highest speed in February. In particular, Trai data shows that Reliance Jio registered 20.9 megabits per second regarding average speed in downloading.
According to the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), there was hardly any change in the performance of Vodafone and Bharti Airtel in comparison with January, which registered 6.7 and 9.4 megabits per second, respectively.
The period between January and February saw a slight increase of 0.2Mbps in Idea’s average download speed, which went from 5.5 to 5.7 megabit per second.
While Idea Cellular and Vodafone have merged their businesses and the pair now operate as one entity called Vodafone Idea, TRAI assessed them individually in their publication of data.
As per the data, Vodafone featured the highest average upload speed. The upload speed on its network rose from 5.4 megabits per second in January to 6 megabits per second in February.
Users of Airtel and Idea experienced a slight decrease in the average 4G upload speed, which respectively went down to 3.7 megabits per second and 5.6 megabits per second. Meanwhile, Jio’s average upload speed slightly grew to 4.5Mbps in February.
Download speed is a critical factor in user experience including watching videos, browsing the Internet and accessing emails. Besides, upload speed is necessarily needed when users want to share data such as videos, photos via social media or emails.
To generate such data regarding average speed, TRAI calculated based on what it collected through MySpeed app on a real-time basis.
