Puma company is currently taking applications for its beta program aiming at those lucky applicants who wish to have a look on their new product of self-lacing shoes, which are set to rival that of Nike’s Adapt BB. Spanning from now and 28th of April, if you are currently residing in the following region: UK, German, Denmark, Sweden, Spain, Norway, Turkey, U.S, Japan, Hong Kong, and India, you can have a chance to be their tester by applying for Puma’s beta testing program by downloading the PUMATRAC application which is now available on Android and iOS devices or you can register the beta test on Puma’s online form.
After these steps, you will be asked about your current shoe size, your current model of smartphone, your general thoughts and active passion for Puma self-lacing shoes’ adaptive technology. Then, the chosen applicants will receive the sneakers so that they can give constructive comments, which will potentially be useful for Puma while they are preparing for the release of Puma Fi in the spring of 2020.
Puma Fi self-lacing mechanic relies on a motor placed on the top of the shoe, which helps tighten the shoe’s Dyneema strings. The shoelace’s tension can be adjusted by swiping on the companion app which is connected via Bluetooth or directly on the module. Puma Fi’s main competitor, the famous Nike Adapt BB, currently available for $350, has its motor inserted inside its sole, and two physical buttons installed on the midsole as a secondary input method. Puma Fi is also equipped with Apple Watch connectivity along with a small wireless charger.
It does not matter which side you choose, the old fashion shoes or the new technological advanced shoes, one thing rest assured, the rise of these new auto-lacing shoes will not only be useful for shoe enthusiasts and athletes but also be useful for those with health conditions and disabilities.
