There are a lot of ways to overcome the heat such as sitting in an air-conditioned room, showering many times or drinking a glass of iced tea; however, none of the above solutions is chosen by priests in Karnataka. They found a completely different way to appeal to rain gods and dispel the harsh sun.
In Someshwara temple, Halasuru, the priests honored the rain god by conducting a special puja. Their purpose is to receive the god’s mercy and therefore, the god will rain down and give Indian people monsoon season as they are desiring.
Appealing to rain gods is not strange in some countries like India; however, this Puja has its own differences. We can see it clearly through photos on social media, in which there are three priests in the temple. One priest is performing hawan. The next photo shows two other priests are seemingly sitting inside big patilas that are full of water. However, the most surprising thing is that they appear to be holding smartphones or something like those while soaking in the water.
The Indian news agency ANI reported that the incident took place on June 06.
ANI then shared these images on Twitter and hereby, brought a tonne of laughs to Indians who are craving for monsoon season, as well as those who are suffering from the heat all over the country. Many of Twitter users said humorously that two of the three priests may be playing PUBG while sitting inside the patilas. Some even saw themselves in the image of these priests because they also have a habit of carrying smartphones everywhere.
The funnier thing is that netizens even organized a contest to write captions for these images.
Some talked about a clear paradox from the priests’ wasting valuable water in dry weather. Meanwhile, others believed that the Someshwara temple’s priests were introducing the most ideal solution to use smartphones in summer.
It seemed that sitting inside water tubs was a part of the puja ritual. Some netizens thought that these priests may be reading “mantras” on their devices.
Finally, monsoon landed the coast in Kerala on June 08, starting a rainfall season that last fours months in India. The priests in Karnataka may be lucky or they actually called the god of rain. Who can answer it exactly?!
