At a rented house in the Mahal area of Maharashtra, Krish Sunil Lunawat used to live with his mother and sister. His mother and sister both worked in private companies and didn't have much time for him. Most of his time was home alone and spent hours playing games on a smartphone. Because of his passion for gaming, he also obliged his mother to purchase a Play Station.

On Monday, Lunawat's mother went to Mumbai and she asked her son to handover her his smartphone. Lunawat, of course, refused to give it to his mother. Then his mother took his phone and left the city that afternoon.

Not satisfied with his mother, the boy used a bed sheet to hang his neck on the ceiling fan in their apartment and committed suicide.

His sister discovered his body when she returned home that evening and she immediately called the police. An autopsy was conducted on Lunawat's body and the incident registered at the Kotwali Police Station.

Phone addiction is becoming a dangerous and alarming problem. According to a research by the Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR) and Aligarh Muslim University entitled "Smartphone Dependency, Hedonism, and Purchase Behavior: Implications for Digital India Initiatives", they studied that in one day an Indian student in University checks their smartphone up to 150 times.
