Pfizer Concludes COVID-19 Vaccine Trial With A Success Rate Of 95%

According to reports, Pfizer Inc is seeking emergency approval from the US FDA for its COVID-19 vaccine. The decision was made after the researchers received optimistic results from the vaccine’s late-stage trial. The vaccine got a success rate of 95% among people of all ages.

The American pharmaceutical company confirmed that it had safety data of two months as required by the US government to apply for emergency authorization. Pfizer Inc added that the trials had been carried out on people of all ages and ethnicities. The effectiveness of the vaccine has been consistent and it has no major side effects.

So what does this mean? This means that once the vaccine is developed, it can be used for people around the world.

The 95% success rate is stated in a final analysis. This comes one week after the initial results showing the vaccine to be over 90% effective. The final analysis also suggests that the vaccine was more than 94% effective in adults that are over 65 years, people who have been viewed as vulnerable to the virus and are more likely to be affected.

The results of the vaccine candidate, developed in collaboration with BioNTech, are better than anticipated. As per Pfizer, in its trial consisting of over 43,000 volunteers, there were 170 COVID-19 cases. And out of these 170 cases, 8 were observed in the vaccine group while 162 were in the placebo arm.

Ten people got severe COVID-19. And among them, only one received the vaccine.
