On October 12, The Flaming Lips, an iconic rock band, held their concert in Oklahoma City. And during the concert, the performers as well as the audiences could be seen sealed in a plastic bubble for safety reasons.
It is definitely unusual to see something like this. NME reports that the bubbles were used during the concert in order to protect people against COVID-19.

It is strange to see a concert full of bubbles. In an interview, Wayne Coyne, the band’s lead singer said that this was kind of the dilemma that we were in. People can’t wait for the world to return to its normal state. However, we also need to consider if this is how the future looks like.
According to Coyne, the bubbles gave him enough air for a couple of hours. And for him, this could be a way for the live music industry to get back on track.
However, while the bubbles can be a great method to protect people against the coronavirus, they are only for bands that can pay for a big venue. It can be difficult for smaller venues to manage all those bubbles.
The Flaming Lips has been known to use bubbles for their concerts. However, this was the first time that the band used them as a means to follow social-distancing rules.

When not inside their bubbles, fans attending the concert were asked to put on a face mask and maintain a safe distance.
