No One Could Guess What Is In This Picture And They Were All Creeped Out

A couple of days ago, an officer at the India Forest Service (IFS), Susanta Nanda, posted a photo on Twitter that got everyone confused and even spooked. The picture went online with a caption saying “Can you identify this animal?” And it appeared that no one could make a good guess in this case, or they were too freaked to guess.

The picture shows what looks like five toes on a foot, with nails. The so-called toes poked out from under a wooden log and had a pale shade. The whole thing looks really creepy.

The photo went viral very quickly, attracting attention and curiosity from netizens, who flooded the post’s comment section with all types of guesses. They thought everything they can, from as realistic as a gorilla to something as fictional as a yeti. Some even related the picture to White Walkers from the famous series Games Of Thrones.

However, Susanta Nanda revealed the right answer and though it’s not as spooky or scary as many might think, it’s really interesting. The “toes and nails” turn out to be a kind of fungus, called Xylaria polymorpha. This fungus is also known as “dead man’s fingers,” which makes sense, doesn’t it?
