Nike is making it easier for users to find a fitting pair of shoes by adding an augmented reality function to its app, which helps you measure your feet to find the best fit.
While you may think that using AR for shoe shopping is a total waste of technology, the idea behind this move is actually useful. Shoes are one of the hardest merchandises to buy online, mainly because you need to try them on to be sure they fit, which you can hardly do if you shop online. Even if you have an accurate measurement of your feet, brands are not exactly telling you the truth about sizes, which worsens the problem. You may wear size 11 with one brand, but when you shop with another, your feet may fit size 12.
Nike shoes are extra hard to but online either, even if you have a Brannock device ready to have detailed measurements. That is why the company thought about bringing AR to the business.
According to Nike, the new function can measure each foot for shape, size, and volume. Its accuracy can reach 2 mm. It then checks the measurements with the data of the Nike shoes it has and the purchasing history of other customers who have similar information. After that, it tells users the size they should opt for with the style they have in mind.
This is by no mean a fancy feature to appeal to consumers. Nike is giving AR to its app as well as to retails stores to suggest customers of the suitable sizes better, proving that the company is quite confident with this technology.
The US will be the first country to have this new feature in July. The next destination is Europe, which is scheduled to get the upgrade in August.
