The police received the information of a bank robbery and rushed to the scene, but much to their surprise, it was a monkey who created all of the fuss.

On Wednesday, New Delhi police were summoned to an ATM belonging to the State Bank of India, which is about 10 minute walk from the presidential palace to find a part of the machine had been pulled off.

This seemed like a robbery attempt to the police so they came to CCTV footage and what really happened was a curious monkey trying to see what was inside of the strange-looking machine.

From the video, you can see the monkey, probably a Rhesus Macaque, which is native to the region, climbed on the ATM machine and did a few tweaks. After taking out a piece of plastic and sniffed it, the primate bounced up and down for a while on the lid.

After playing with the machine and got bored, the monkey jumped down and left. The police have no idea how the culprit could manage to get into the kiosk in the first place as it must go through a glass door, and how it got away.

A source familiar with this matter said a banker arrived and found the front of the ATM ripped off so the alarm was raised to call the police.

After examining the CCTV footage, the monkey’s endeavor is busted. New Delhi is home to around 4,000 to 5,000 monkeys, which often create trouble for locals.

What they usually do is steal food, destroy power line, even attack people.
