Along with the revival of an office assistant called Clippy, Microsoft Teams was remembering their dream since the 1990s. Clippy was first introduced to users in the version of Microsoft Office from 1997 to 2001, to suggests some tips for those who were not really familiar with how to use the software.
However, in 2001, the company killed the animated paperclip with its big eyes that sometimes made users feel unease. It came as a surprise when we suddenly saw Clippy stickers once again in Microsoft Teams a few days ago. But the more surprising thing was still behind it: after only one day, Clippy disappeared out of the software.
According to the report from The Verge, on March 19, it showed up with the role of a pack of animated stickers and was still a part of Microsoft Teams. The stickers of talkative paperclip came to the public on the page of Office Developer GitHub; however, all of them completely became invisible to users. The revival time of Clippy seemed so short that users couldn’t have enough time to remember all happy moments beside it.
In addition, it can’t be denied that the pack of stickers was allegedly useless if not considering the value of entertainment. Maybe those who used Microsoft Office during 1997-2001 wished to see it once again.
Back to 2001, when talking about the product, Microsoft depicted Clippy as “the little paperclip with the soulful eyes and the Groucho eyebrows.” How the paperclip provided hints for Microsoft Office’s users was also a controversial story.
In fact, the reasons behind it were very easy. It worked as almost all of the other popups, which sometimes will show up unnecessary content. It seemed that Microsoft didn’t want to show its failed office assistant to users, but the short moment of Clippy’s rebirth was rapidly recorded.
