Going Bankrupt, MegaBots Has To Sell Giant Battle Robot At A Starting Price Of Only $1

What the MegaBots co-founder hopes at present is just for the company’s mega robot not to live in a landfill for the rest of its life. The auction will officially end on October 03.

Giant fighting robots seem to go through the golden era when we witness MegaBots has been in bankruptcy. The US startup company is selling Eagle Prime, a mega robot with a height of 16 feet, on eBay. It comes as a big surprise that this robot’s bidding began at only $1 and its current price is about $50,000.

These giant fighting robots may have a chance to return the arena in case the highest bidder is interested in fights between giant robots.

In addition to some battle scars, Eagle Prime still remains in good condition. The robot is capable of combining with CAD files, weapons, as well as extra parts.

According to Matt Oehrlein, the co-founder of MegaBots, the company couldn’t afford the upkeep costs for Eagle Prime. Even the storage costs exceeded its ability to pay.

MegaBots spent about $2.5 million producing Eagle Prime and this amount mainly hailed from crowdfunding. As such, the highest bidder could buy the bot with an unprecedented bargain price. However, the cost of shipment in the United States alone is not cheap at all, ranging from $4,000 to $17,000.

In Oehrlein’s YouTube video, the co-founder of MegaBots explained about the company’s cost issues. He also said that the new owner of Eagle Prime won’t probably continue investing in this bot and his company will have no idea about it.

One of the Eagle Prime’s fans asked him why MegaBots wouldn’t bring the robot to Burning Man and show its fans, as well as tech communities, what it could do. Oehrlein explained:

At least, Oehrlein still shows his optimism that MegaBots may have another future with a new form, instead of the “current form.”
