Time travel might sound like something from sci-fi movies but mathematics has proven that it is possible, even if we may have to wait for a really long time before we see the first time machine created.
A mathematical framework, made by Ben Tippett of the University of British Columbia as well as David Tsang of the University of Maryland, outlines how we can achieve time traveling.
According to Tippett, people think time travel is impossible because they do not actually do it, but mathematics has proven that it is.

The whole method bases on the creation of the exotic matter, a material that can bend space-time to a point that time slows down. However, the two scientists did not elaborate on how we can create such material.
Stars and planets follow straight lines in flat space-time and according to Einstein’s theory of general relativity, large objects which have massive gravity can bend space-time as well as the path of light.
The material mentioned in the two scientists’ papers can do a similar thing, which is to bend the time part in space-time.
There is a curvature in the space-time surface’s time direction, which shows in the fact that when we get closer to a black hole, time seems to go slower than usual. The method of the two scientists involves bending the time into a circle by taking advantage of that curvature, which will take humans back to the past.
The paper of Tsang and Tippett also mentions a bubble that can travel faster than light itself, capable of taking people back in time. The bubble accommodates two people, one is inside and another is outside. The two may experience time differently.
The one inside will see B’s events moving forward and then backward while B will see two As emerging from one location. This means B will see two versions of the one inside the bubble, one moves forward and the other moves backward in time.

While mathematics proves that this plan is feasible and the pair is confident that their math is accurate, they doubt that such a time machine will ever be made.
The term time machine was popularized by HG Wells a long time ago so people might think that to travel back in time, one needs to have a box or a machine that can do so.
But such a method presented by the two scientists needs one more thing to be materialized, the exotic matter described in the paper which can bend space-time. However, such a material has not yet been discovered.
This paper seems to be based on a talk given by Professor Brian Cox in 2013. He said that time travel can be done but it is only possible for traveling to the future. According to him, going forward is feasible but going back is not. If you travel fast, your clock will be relatively faster than that of those who are standing still. If you are able to reach the speed of light, you can be 10,000 years in the future.
This theory is developed based on the Theory of Special Relatively of Einstein, which suggests that when an object travels as fast as light itself, time will slow down and the object can jump to the future, however, this only happens to the object.
