This research might change our entire understanding of coding and give new hope for those who wish to learn these skills when they have no talent in math

It is a common consensus that you need to be good at math to be good at coding. And that belief has deterred many from choosing to code when they find themselves struggled with math.

However, recent research from the University of Washington points out that the aptitude to learn languages is a better indication of how accomplished a person might be in coding.

The researchers explain that learning how to code is like when you learn a second language. You have to know its grammar and vocabulary, as well as how they combine to convey intentions and ideas. Besides the language ability, other key skills are problem solving and memory.

What the researchers did was to study the brains of more than 30 adults when they learn a common programming language, Python. They found out that those who learn the programming language faster usually have greater abilities in problem-solving and language.

In the future, researchers could further study the link between programming instruction and language aptitude, or if the ability to learn a language can help users master more complex programming system, like Java.

Coding has long been associated with engineering and math. Those who want to learn the skills at the college level must show their knowledge of advanced math as coding is usually taught in the engineering and computer science departments.

Many of you may not know that human language is the foundation of coding as programming requires coders to string symbols to create meaningful commands.

So this research might change our entire understanding of coding and give new hope for those who wish to learn these skills when they have no interest or talent in math.
